Why consulting teams outgrow generic project management software, and what a system built around client engagements actually changes.
A consulting firm does not sell tasks. It sells engagements: a scope agreed with a client, a set of deliverables, named experts who carry each of them, and a report someone has to approve before anything is invoiced. Most software a firm runs, from shared drives to project management tools, treats that work as a generic list of tasks. A consultant management system is the category of software built around what consulting work actually is.
It is the operating layer between the client's problem and the delivered work. Concretely, it holds four things a spreadsheet or a Kanban board was never designed to hold:
There is nothing wrong with generic tools. They are just built for a different object. A consultant management system and a project management tool answer different questions:
| Question | Generic project tool | Consultant management system |
|---|---|---|
| What is the unit of work? | A task on a board | A deliverable with a brief and a report |
| Who sees progress? | The internal team | The team, the firm and the client, from the same file |
| Who carries the work? | Anyone assigned to the task | A named expert, with grades and delivered history |
| How is the money handled? | Not modelled | Fees, splits and approvals tracked per engagement |
| What closes the loop? | A status change | A validated report, timestamped for both sides |
The gap shows up at the worst moment: at delivery. When a client asks what was agreed, what was produced and who signed it off, a board of tasks has no answer. An engagement system does.
Six questions separate a real consultant management system from a rebranded task board:
Bravvo Network is a mission operating system built for AI consulting engagements. Every mission is composed as a horizontal pipeline of blocks: deliverables spread across acculturation, framing and tooling, each assigned to a named expert with a deadline, a brief in and a report out. Work only closes when the report has been reviewed, first by Bravvo, then by the client, within a seven-business-day window before tacit approval.
The people side is built in: independent consultants and firms join through a signed contract, progress through grades and contribution points rather than seniority, and arrive on engagements with the network's tooling already at hand. Client, expert and firm read the same file, so one engagement or thirty in parallel stay legible without manual coordination.
Curious what this looks like on a real engagement?
The Bravvo method runs in three steps, from AI literacy to deployment, across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
